Regalos/Gifts (III): (Furry) Godzilla!

It really is a T-Rex but I prefer to called it Furry Godzilla and I made it for my nephew Diego. You can find the pattern in FreeAmigurumiPattern. Like always it ended up much bigger because I (as always)  used a chunky (acrylic) yarn and a 5mm hook. I also changed a bit the colors from the pattern. And one last thing: although the pattern says to use "double crochet" I used "single crochet" (maybe it refers at the brtish term...?)

It took me some time to finished it, because it has a lot of pieces (14!) but it is really cute...and of course once Diego said : "this is my favorite dinosuar now!" I had to control myself not to go and make 20 more for him!
PS: Lupe isn´t afraid of anything!

Regalos/Gifts (II): Bolsos redondos/Round Bags!

Part II of the gifts were this round bags. Actually I first did the purple one for me (even before that the white tote bag). I didn´t follow any pattern I just kept making circle rounds (**) using single crochet with a chunky acrylic yarn and a #5 hook. The strap that´s in the middle of the the two circles it´s 7s.c. wide and whatever length you need. Then the smaller straps for the handles are about 20 s.c wide (you can crochet them anywhere in the circle) and 2 rds. s.c+1 rd. h.d.c+2 rds. d.c+1 rd. h.d.c+2 rds. s.c
or something like that...I think you can make all the modifications your yarn, size or imagination ask for.

We were (Lupe&me) quite happy with my purple round bag except for the yarn. So for the gifts I used the same cotton like acrylic worsted weight  that I used in the white tote bag and a #4 hook. And also, instead of making single crochet rounds I did them in double crochet. I like them better this way although Alvaro likes better the purple one. The beige/black was for mom. Blue/white for sis.

Regalos/Gifts (I): Cupcakes!

(próxima entrega: bolsos redondos para mamá y hermana)

It´s been very long time since  I did a handmade gift...I´m guesing last time probably was a Mother´s day card (o macaroni mosaic) I had to do in school. But this year, hooked to hook as I am, I decided  I was going to make my mom´s and sister´s birthday gifts with my own hands. So first I did this lovely "cupcake purse" from AmyGaines so they could use it for store things. As you can see in the picture there 2 sizes: the big one corresponds to the pattern exactly as it is, the small one has little adjusments from the pattern (basically I just eliminated some rounds) and for the drawstrings I used some cute ribbon instead of making them from the yarn itself. I used acrilic yarn for both of them (chunky for the big one, worsted weight for the small one) and #5 hook for big and #4 for small. I wanted to make an even smaller one but I ran out of time...I´ll give it a try as soon as I can.
Guava-pink for mom. Pistachio-green for sis.

Muy mimada / Very spoiled

My birthday was a few months ago (August, 1st.) but as I saw the pictures of it I decided I should write a post on on the presents Alvaro and my mom gave me. Fact: I´m a very lucky girl. Alvaro always give the greatest/cutest/amazing presents, he always knows what I want/need...even before I know what I want/need. This year he gave me my fisrt sewing machine!!! and also 2 lovely books: "Yarn bombing" (Mandy Moore y Leanne Prain) and "25 bags to knit" (Emma King). The sewing machine stills looks a bit scary for me, Alvaro, on the other hand, has his way around it. He even made me a beatiful skirt (I´ll tell you all about it in a post of its own). I hope this fase ends soon so I can start sewing like crazy!.

Besides this amazing gifts we also took me to diner, then to have a hot brownie and then Lupe sang me happy birthday!

Y 3 libros: "Not your mama´s crochet" (Amy Swenson), "Beyond the square: Crochet Motifs" (Edie Eckman) y "Stotch ´n Bitch: the knitter´s handbook" (Debbie Stoller).

My mom gave a amazon gift card and I managed to find a lot of goodies: a Clover hook set which brings 8 hooks (#2.75/3.25/3.5/3.75/4.0/5.0/5.5/6.0) and come in avery cute case. And other 3 books: "Not your mama´s crochet" (Amy Swenson), "Beyond the square: Crochet Motifs" (Edie Eckman) and  "Stotch ´n Bitch: the knitter´s handbook" (Debbie Stoller).

Then when she came to visit she bought me this beatiful bag/basket, perfect to carry my crochet...or even Lupe!

Every year, after my birthday come my mom´s and sister´s birthdays (we all have our birthdays in august)...so next couple of posts will be about what I made for them...stay tune... ;)

Hace mucho tiempo / Long time ago (I)

Before I got "hooked to the hook" I tried knitting first...almost 5 years ago (!!!!!!). I don´t remeber what kind of yarn I used.

After I managed to cast-on some stitches a started my first scarf by doing only knitting stitches. You can see how the first part of it has funny edges but after a while I got some straight edges. Then I did the green one for Alvaro, again with just knit stitches and again with the purple one (for me), this one is thinner but longer with the intention of using it with at least 4 rounds. And my last attempt was the blue one in wich I tried knit-1-round/ purl-1-round.

Truth is knitting doesn´t makes the trick for me like crochet. Although, the more I crochet I´m starting to get a bit knit-curious. Besides I´m reading "Stitch ´n bitch: the knitter´s handbook" by Debbie Stoller and it´s been so great I might give it another try!.
Lupe doesn´t care if it is crochet or knitting...she just love the yarn stuff! ;)

Bolso blanco / White tote bag

This is my  white tote bag!. It´s made from an  acrylic-cotton-like yarn I bought in El Gato Negro using a crochet hook # 6. I didn´t follow any pattern  I was improvising as I went and I guess that if I had used a smaller hook it would have a more delicate finish but I like that "rough-like" look  ...  truth is I feel more comfortable with  big hooks ...

I lined it with a different fabric on each side, the idea was that you could see the print  through the crochet layer .I like the effect of the striped fabric but you can hardly apreciate the dots of the pink fabric...next time I´ll try bigger dots.

I really like the result, it was quite fast to crochet and I used it all summer. The pin is from Lady Desidia (xmas present from Alvaro) and you can even use the bag to carry around your chihuahua ! ;)

PS: you can take this as a guide to crochet a similar bag...it is not a real pattern!..sorry...I have to work on pattern-writting skills

Bienvenida Gaby! / Welcome Gaby!

On Monday Gaby decided that it was about time to come out and join us. I don´t have a lot of friends with babies and I´m not quiet used to see them in their new role. It seems like it was yesterday when we were out partying, studying and eating every piece of chocolate that we could get our hands on. But, truth be told, its been a long while and we have shared a lot of (very) good moments a (very) bad moments and we still are walking together each other´s paths.

I enjoyed a lot making this little project for her. My version of the shoes is quiet different from the pattern (I don´t know what I did different) but since they are my first attempt I think they are ok. You can find the pattern in Lion Brand (for free). I used cotton yarn and a #4 hook.
The bib´s design (or self-portrait) was made by Alvaro and stitch by me. I´ve been stitching this bibs for the babies around me for the past 4 years.
I was just at the hospital meeting Gaby...she really is one of the most beatiful newborn baby I´ve seen! ;)

Tortugas para Nani / Turtles for Nani

My friend Nani moved to Malaga last june and I did this baby and daddy turtles for her.

I used a AmyGaines pattern that is pretty easy. The little one with a #4 hook and the big one with a #5 hook.

I didn´t finish daddy turtle on time...so he´s stuck in Madrid waiting for me to jump on a train and get him to the beach!
