Alvaro has been participating in Medialab´s paper lab for a few months now…so you can imagine it was a matter of time that we started weaving and crocheting with paper!

We decided to make some sort of workshop/installation inside Medialab.

The Project had two parts: first we had to try out different kinds paper like newspaper, recycled paper and even toilet paper!. We used a traditional spindle and also a drill to make yarn out of it. At the end we liked better how it worked out with tissue paper and crepe paper and some commercial paper yarn.

Second part was actually crocheting (or knitting) the pieces so we can cover a column. It was very nice to see how a steady group of about 12 people gather each Friday of November  to learn, teach and research with us…and this is the result:

More than an installation we decided to called it an invitation, since we all agree we want to cover the whole column.

The eye in the sky (Nomada Market)

I´ve gone to NomadaMarket (independent design fair) many times and always liked it. I always found nice gifts (most of them for myself!) and left with a lot of energy to make things. So you can imagine my excitement when the Nomada team called us and invited us to make an installation for the next fair, which was dedicated to WOOL!.

We met with them, found out that we were all in sync and within days we visited the attic of Chamartin station, where the fair was to take place. Once there and after thinking over all the options we decided to cover up the lamps at the fair´s entrance and to make a video-expo with pics and videos of all our yarn bombings that  we´ve done over the past couple of years.

We chose the colors and a few weeks later they sent the yarn... it was time to crochet 3 huge circles (with a diameter of almost 1 meter). The colors were so bright and pretty than gave us energy to crochet really fast! ;)

The installation took us two days of hard work, with a big help of our friends MA and Ana (again without them it would have been impossible!) and this was the result:

Of course, after 3 days going around the fair I ended up with a bunch of “tresures”, like a pendant from Sra.O, ate a lot of cupcakes and bought a baby-kimono from Monkimono for our baby (yes there’s a baby on our way…so from now on it´s going to be a bollard/a bootie..or something like that ;)

Un patrón da para mucho / A pattern with many possibilities

Looking for a teddy bear pattern I found THIS one that looked easy and cute (it is the samepattern from last post). After making the bear I did some modifications and I ended up with a bunny and a alien.

Bunny´s ears are from All about Ami spring bunny pattern…I made up the legs and didn´t write down the pattern…sorry for that..but they are pretty easy to make.

They are all crocheted with a 5.5mm hook and Astún yarn (Lans Stop) (55% acrylic/45% wool).
