El ataque de los patucos!! / Baby booties attack!

After having some trouble making Gaby´s baby booties I decided to try another pattern. THIS PATTERN is quick and easy to make so I like it better. It was easy to have fun with it combining different yarns and colors.

First I made my nephew Sebastián a pair (2 strands, 4 mm hook)

Luego los de Victor (2 hebras, ganchillo 4mm)

Then for Victor (2 strands, 4 mm hook)

Luego los de Ignacio (2 hebras, ganchillo 4mm)

Then for Ignacio  (2 strands, 4 mm hook)

And back to the nephews, this time for both of them (Diego and Sebastián)…in a “monster-version” of it. For the big one I had to modified a bit the pattern, but since it´s such an easy pattern it wasn´t that hard.

I like when each project has his/her own name! ;)

Finally I entered the XXI century ... I have fallen into the clutches of a smartphone!. I have two confessions: 1) I love my phone! And 2) the first thing I wanted to do with it was to crochet it a cozy!

I decided to try one (of many) yarn I brought in Caracas. It´s called “Pabilo” and it´s a cheap-rustic-cotton yarn we use in Venezuela for several things. I got it in a store called Cositeje (highly recommended). They are very nice and you can combine the yarn to make your own colour/thikness combination.

This one has two strands: dark pink and burgundy. I started crocheting it in half double crochet with a 4mm hook. But I didn´t really like it…it looked kind of messy. So I frogged it and started again this time with a tunisian hook (4mm) and it worked! (at least for me!)

It´s very easy to crochet: I simply chain about 14 stitches and then went up in tunisian simple stitch until it was long enough to cover the phone. Then I folded in half, sew together sides with slip stitch (wrong side), turned it around  et voilà!

I added a wood-button…can´t go wrong with wood-buttons! ;)

I spent many months observing the rag yarn... I tried, I got tired, I unraveled it. I didný get the hang of it until I got my big Clover hook (10mm) (I´m sooo hooked to clover hooks!)

Once I started I couldn´t stop making this bags… First I made the "mom" ...

Y luego el bebé…

then the baby ...

Luego un regalito…

Then a little gift ...

Y otro más….
and then another gift....

They all have round bases, it´s time for me to try an oval-shape base…I already have somerag yarn for it…

They are very fast to crochet* and you can store almost anything in them…specially more yarn!

Y también chihuahuas!

And chihuahuas!

* As I said they all have round base, then for the first round going up I use onle the back loop and then keep going up using both loop in half-double crochet.

Mochi rebelde / Rebel mochi

When I saw some friends knitting mochimochi dolls I fell in love with them. When I touched them I was head over feet. I think knitted dolls are much more soft and “huggable” than amigurumis. Don´t get me wrong I love amigurumis but I wanted to try with knitted toys. The problem was… I get sooo bored with knitting needles I couldn´t bring myself to make one.

So I decided I was going to give it a try using a round loom, that way I´ll get the same texture without touching the needles!...and I think it worked! Or at least I think it looks cute and huggable. It has another trick: all the limbs are crochet. I can help it! I absolutely LOVE crochet! ;)

So is kind of a “platypus mochimochi”, “hybrid mochichi” or “rebel mochimochi” whatever you wish to call it…but I think it does the trick! ;)

I see a pair of these bugs in my nephews future…. ;)

How a make it:
(can´t call it a mochimochi pattern…but it works)

Yarn: “red heart super saver” (both of them, purple and multicoulored)
Eyes: 12mm safety eyes.

40 rounds in knit stitch using 5-1/2 inch. knifty knitter round loom.

For ears and legs I used the ones in THIS pattern
The arms are just magic ring+6 sc, increase to 12 sc and then 5 rounds keeping it in 12 sts. (all with a 4mm hook).

INSTAGRAM con sorpresa! / with surprise!

Since I saw this “Instagram purse” on Pinterest  I knew I had to make it for Francis’s birthday

The bag itself is quite easy to do (pattern at the end of the post), I decided to make it using tunisian crochet since I was looking for a strong and regular finish. The lens is regular crochet and the rest of the details are in felt.

But what I am most proud of is the lining!. It is the first time in my life that I sew a zipper,  I don´t know if it is technically ok but at least it opens and closes smoothly!. Also, I sewed the lining in the sewing machine without  fighting with it!

I think crochet it´s powerful stuff!...so I decided to try to cure Francis´s cockroach phobia by making her an amigurumi one! (yes, I´m evil, I know!). So inside the purse she found this cute little “pet” (pattern HERE)

After she yelled a little she was able to pose for the pictures…. ;)
