Motivo Wayú en Creatextil / Wayú Motif at Creatextil

Cuando Lala de Indigo Estudio Textil  nos invitó a intervenir la entrada del Museo del Traje nos alegramos muchísimo e inmediatamente nos pusimos manos a la obra. Queríamos hacer algo distinto a los yarn bombing que normalmente hacemos, algo que al mismo tiempo contrastara y dialogara con la fachada del Museo convirtiéndola en un textil. Utilizamos la escalera como soporte de una retícula para un tejido inspirados en los colores y motivos geométricos de los tejidos Wayú (indígenas de la península de la Guajira, sobre el mar Caribe, que habita territorios de Colombia y Venezuela).

When Lala from Indigo Estudio Textil invited us to make a yarn installation at the Museo del Traje (Costume Museum) entrance we were thrilled and start working right away. We wanted to make something different from our normal yarn bombings, something that at the same time contrasted and matched the Museum´s front entrance transforming it into fabric. We used the stairs as a grid to create a “fabric” inspired in the colors and geometric patterns of Wayú´s people weaving (ethnic group of the La Guajira Peninsula in northern Colombia and northwest Venezuela).

Fue casi una misión imposible pero ¡lo logramos!. Con casi nada de tiempo nos metimos una paliza en la tricotosa y pudimos tejer los 144 rectángulos para dejar asi de guapa la escalera del Museo del Traje para las jornadas de Creatextil (Conferencias, visitas guiadas a colecciones de textiles y moda, quedadas textileras, mercado textil y la Asamblea General del European Textile Network).

It was almost a mission impossible but we did it!. With almost no time we jumped on our knitting machine and knitted over 144 rectangles for the Creatextil sessions (lectures, guided visits to textile and fashion museum collections, get-together, textile market and ETN General Assembly).

El montaje nos llevó mas de 6 horas y muchas risas…menos mal que contábamos con la ayuda de Fur, Francis y Miguelito…sino hubiese si que hubiese sido imposible…

To install it took more than six hours and lots of laughs…thanks to the help of our friends Fur, Francis and Miguelito…without them it would have been impossible…

Además el sábado por la tarde dimos una pequeña charla sobre nuestra actividad como “yarnbombers” y todos los temas que nos permite investigar.

On Saturday afternoon we made a short lecture about our activity as yarn bombers and how it allows us to explore different topics.

Hoy se celebra el International Yarn Bombing day y para celebrarlo hemos hecho una adaptación de esta instalación...asi las personas que vayan a tejer al Museo de Traje lo podrán ver! ;)

Today is International Yarn Bombing day and to clebrate it we did this new version of our installation...that way people that are going to knit in public today at the museum can enjoy it! ;)
